Taron Egerton stars as a serial killer pursuing Charlize Theron in the thrilling new trailer for Netflix’s Apex.

In the gripping first trailer for Apex, Charlize Theron battles for survival in the rugged Australian wilderness. This action thriller, set to hit Netflix next year, also features Taron Egerton and Eric Bana, promising a high-octane experience filled with rock climbing, rafting, and a deadly game of human hunting.

The trailer opens with Theron’s character venturing into a stunning national park for some solo extreme sports. As revealed in Netflix’s official synopsis, she’s coping with a traumatic past. However, her time in nature is abruptly interrupted when a serial killer, played by Egerton, sets his sights on her. What ensues is a tense cat-and-mouse chase where only one will emerge victorious.

This teaser has been released as a festive surprise, though viewers will have to wait until spring to stream the film.

Directed by Baltasar Kormákur, known for his expertise in portraying extreme scenarios in films like Everest and Adrift, Apex was filmed in New South Wales, Australia, showcasing the breathtaking Blue Mountains. Netflix describes the film as one that “layers emotional depth into a high-stakes fight for survival,” following in the footsteps of recent thrillers like 2024’s Don’t Move.

Both leading actors are familiar faces in Netflix’s lineup of successful originals. Egerton starred in the hit 2024 film Carry-On, which became one of the platform’s most-watched titles, while Theron headlined the fantasy action film The Old Guard in 2020, which saw a sequel released last summer. It remains to be seen if their collaboration in Apex can set new streaming records.

Apex is set to premiere on Netflix on April 24, 2026.
