8BitDo Xbox Edition Wireless Keyboard and Mouse Now Available at Great Discounts
This holiday season, 8BitDo’s transparent green gaming gear, officially licensed for Xbox, is available at fantastic prices. The Retro 87 Mechanical Keyboard is now just $70 (down from $120) at a popular retailer. You can also find the tenkeyless wireless version on Amazon, but it’s priced higher at $96. Launched in January alongside the Retro R8 Mouse, which is currently $48 (originally $60), this wireless mouse comes with a magnetic charging dock. To complete your transparent green setup, the 8BitDo Ultimate 3-Mode Controller is available for $50 (was $70). This controller works wirelessly with PC and mobile devices, but only supports wired play on Xbox consoles. If you’re looking for a controller that syncs wirelessly with Xbox, check out the Rare 40th Anniversary Edition, released in August, which is on sale for $72 (was $90) and includes a matching charging dock.
8BitDo’s transparent green accessories pay tribute to one of the original Xbox console’s most beloved special editions.
The Retro 87 Wireless Mechanical Keyboard features UV-coated ABS keycaps and Kailh Jellyfish X transparent switches, delivering a satisfying clicky feel and sound. The keyboard is designed with dust- and splash-resistant Kailh box switches for a reliable typing experience. It boasts customizable RGB backlighting with eight distinct light modes. Like all 8BitDo keyboards, the Retro 87 has a hot-swappable PCB and includes a detachable Super Button module. The two large microswitch buttons can be remapped easily, and the Super Button module housing is also in transparent green. The Xbox Guide button brings up the Xbox overlay menu on PC, while the arrow keys are color-matched to the face buttons of official Xbox controllers (green, red, blue, and yellow). You can customize keybindings, create macros, and adjust RGB lighting effects using 8BitDo’s Ultimate Software V2 on PC, Mac, and mobile. The Retro 87 is compatible with Windows, macOS, iOS, Android, Steam Deck, Asus ROG Xbox Ally, and more. It connects wirelessly via 2.4GHz or Bluetooth, and comes with a green detachable USB-C charging cable for wired use. The 4,000mAh rechargeable battery can last up to 300 hours without lighting effects, and around 25-30 hours with RGB on.
The Retro R8 Wireless Mouse features an ambidextrous design with four additional programmable buttons—two on each side—matching the colors of the Xbox controller’s face buttons. It utilizes Kailh Sword GM X microswitches and a PAW 3395 26K DPI optical sensor with six sensitivity levels. DPI and other settings can be adjusted through Ultimate Software V2. The mouse connects to PC, Mac, and Android devices via Bluetooth or 2.4GHz wireless using the included dongle, which can be stored in the mouse or the magnetic charging dock. For wired use, it also includes a green USB-C cable. The Retro R8 can be charged directly, allowing for portability without the dock. It offers a maximum polling rate of 8,000Hz in wired mode and 4,000Hz with a 2.4GHz connection.
In May, 8BitDo released an NES-themed edition of the Retro R8 Mouse, currently priced at $45 (was $50). This is 8BitDo’s second gaming mouse, following the N30 2.4GHz Wireless Mouse, which features a D-pad instead of side buttons and a touch panel for scrolling, available for $25 (was $30).
If you’re interested in other retro-inspired designs, several 8BitDo wireless keyboards are on sale now. Most of these keyboards draw inspiration from classic gaming consoles or computers, including the NES-inspired N Edition, Famicom-inspired Fami Edition, and the Commodore 64-themed C64 Edition. Like the Xbox Edition, these models connect wirelessly to PC, Mac, and mobile devices via 2.4GHz or Bluetooth. Each comes with a Super Button module and supports Ultimate Software for key rebinding, macro creation, and other settings adjustments. The C64 Edition even includes a detachable arcade stick, the Super Stick. The N Edition bundle, exclusive to a certain retailer, is available for $70 (was $100). All these models are tenkeyless (TKL), but matching wireless numpads that double as calculators are also available. Full-size editions of the NES and Fami models are in stock, with the NES-inspired model discounted by $30.
