Steam Experiences Outage on Christmas Eve

If you’ve been facing issues on Steam today, you’re definitely not alone. Valve’s platform has been largely down for most of Christmas Eve, throwing up a variety of errors for users.

According to SteamDB, parts of Steam are hit with “websocket errors,” and the community features along with the Web API are completely offline. A popular status tracking site has also reported an uptick in user complaints, highlighting problems with server connections, purchases, and logins. In practical terms, this means you might struggle to access certain sections of the storefront, like user profiles, and could encounter difficulties when trying to buy games or utilize community features. Even the parts of Steam that are operational seem to have loading issues, making for a frustrating experience.

While this doesn’t mean you can’t play your games, the timing is unfortunate since Steam serves as both a social hub and a store. Valve has yet to acknowledge the outage or provide any updates on when things might return to normal.

For those hoping to dive into the Steam Winter Sale, it looks like you might have to wait a bit longer. But hey, maybe it’s a good excuse to hold off on adding more games to your backlog.
