Trump’s Corruption Culture Enables Bot to Earn $230,000 from Video Game Betting
When the U.S. gambling laws were relaxed in 2018, many predicted the fallout would be devastating for individuals. It was a safe bet to assume that the experiences of other countries, especially the UK, would serve as a cautionary tale. However, few could have anticipated that seven years later, automated bots would be raking in significant profits by betting on online video games. One standout bot, known as TeemuTeemuTeemu, has reportedly earned $230,000 in just five months by wagering on platforms like Polymarket for games such as Counter-Strike, Dota 2, and League of Legends.
This bot has made headlines for its impressive performance, turning an initial $900 into a staggering $208,000 in just three months on Polymarket. It focuses primarily on esports, particularly League of Legends and Dota 2, and operates by monitoring live games, parsing streams, and analyzing official data at speeds no human could match. This allows it to place bets before the market can react to in-game events, capitalizing on odds that are more favorable than those available to human bettors.
A look through the bot’s betting history reveals a winning streak that far outweighs its losses. It frequently places substantial bets, ranging from $200 to $20,000, on slight improvements in game outcomes, netting wins that vary from a few dollars to around $1,500. Over the months, it has executed 1,127 bets, with its largest single win hitting $89,300.
The use of bots for market predictions and rapid decision-making isn’t a novel concept in gambling; it’s been a staple in stock markets for years. With the rise of Polymarket, a crypto-based prediction market where users can bet on virtually anything, it seems inevitable that bots and algorithms will dominate, racing to achieve the fastest and most accurate predictions.
Polymarket’s recent growth can be traced back to the Trump administration’s easing of regulations, which was largely motivated by a desire to enable Trump’s Truth Social platform to engage in similar prediction gambling. Recently announced, Truth Predict is the Trump Media & Technology Group’s initiative, in collaboration with Crypto.com, to enter this market. Interestingly, reports indicate that Crypto.com contributed $11 million to “Trump causes,” shortly before the Securities and Exchange Commission dropped an investigation into the company.
In a twist, Donald Trump Jr. is on the board of Polymarket. Investigations into whether Polymarket was operating illegally were halted by the Trump administration after the company had previously ceased operations in the U.S. when the Biden administration raised concerns about it potentially running an “illegal exchange.”
Amidst all this, ArchiveExplorer notes that competition is heating up to create bots that can outpace TeemuTeemuTeemu, all aimed at exploiting the competitive nature of games like Dota 2 and League of Legends. In a world where money feels abstract, capitalism often seems like a con, and with 47.4 million Americans facing food insecurity, the stakes are higher than ever.
