Okami sequel is still in development, with the team committed to creating an experience that exceeds player expectations.
Clovers CEO Kento Koyama has shared that the highly anticipated sequel to the beloved Capcom title Okami won’t be arriving anytime soon.
After 18 years since its original release, 2024 saw the announcement of a sequel to the iconic PS2 game, which has since been ported to numerous platforms. This new installment will be directed by Hideki Kamiya, marking his first time helming a sequel to one of his own creations. However, details about the game have been sparse in 2025. To ring in the new year, Koyama and Kamiya released a message on the Clovers website to provide an update.
Kamiya expressed, “Our team started 2025 with the excitement of the Okami sequel announcement still fresh. We’ve been so focused on our work that another year has flown by.” He highlighted the rapid growth of Clovers, evolving from “a handful of us in a cramped rental office” to “a fully-fledged studio with locations in Tokyo and Osaka.”
Koyama added, “We’re diligently working on the Okami sequel. While the release is still some time away, we can’t wait to get the finished product into your hands.” He emphasized their commitment to delivering an experience that exceeds the expectations of players worldwide.
With Capcom already set to release four major titles this year, including Resident Evil Village, Monster Hunter Stories 3, Pragmata, and Onimusha: Way of the Sword, it seems unlikely that we’ll hear more about the Okami sequel for a while. However, given Kamiya’s track record of delivering exceptional games, the wait is sure to be worthwhile.
Monster Hunter Wilds’ latest update has left RPG fans wanting more, as performance comparisons from Capcom have not met expectations.
