Stranger Things creators reveal they’ve only deleted one scene in the show’s history, despite Netflix’s request for it.

Fans may have mixed feelings about how the final season of Stranger Things wrapped up and its overall impact on the series, but the Duffer Brothers assure us that everything unfolded just as they envisioned. In fact, the show was executed with such meticulous planning that the creators of the Upside Down recently disclosed that only one scene shot during its decade-long run was ultimately cut, and that was way back when the Hawkins crew was just beginning their journey.

In a chat with an outlet, Matt and Ross Duffer addressed the buzz surrounding rumored lengthy alternate scenes and sequences for season 5. Fans speculated that these mysterious moments were left on the cutting room floor in favor of the final product. Fortunately, that wasn’t the case.

“The only thing that got trimmed a little bit was the teens on the rooftop scene, because there was so much improvising going on,” Matt Duffer shared. “It was one of my favorite scenes, but I think it was five minutes longer, so that got cut down. So there’s an extended version of that.”

As the series finale approached, fans engaged in heated discussions about abandoned romances (sorry, Byler theorists) and anticipated that Eleven (Millie Bobby Brown) would have more screen time than she ultimately received. However, according to Matt Duffer, the only scene that was cut dates back to 2016 and was shot at the request of higher-ups.

“But no, throughout the course of Stranger Things, there’s been only one scene that’s been deleted, all the way back in Season 1,” Matt recalled. “It was a scene Netflix had us write that we didn’t want to write, so we just shot it and deleted it, and they forgot we shot it. It was kind of amazing.”

While fans may be yearning for closure on certain aspects of the show’s conclusion, the final version of the Stranger Things finale is indeed what made it to the screen. The best move for dedicated fans now is to dive back in and experience it all over again. If you’re looking for something fresh to kick off the year, there are plenty of exciting new TV shows set to debut in 2026.
