“Avatar: Fire and Ash Surpasses $1 Billion, Making James Cameron the First Director with Four Straight Billion-Dollar Films”

James Cameron has done it again – *Avatar: Fire and Ash* has officially surpassed the $1 billion mark at the global box office, making him the only director in history to achieve four consecutive billion-dollar hits.

Released on December 19, the latest installment in the *Avatar* series has raked in an estimated $1.083 billion after last weekend’s earnings, and it shows no signs of slowing down. However, it still trails behind its predecessors, *Avatar* ($2.9 billion) and *Avatar: The Way of Water* ($2.3 billion), which currently hold the first and third spots in the all-time highest-grossing films. Cameron’s fourth billion-dollar success is *Titanic* ($2.2 billion), which ranks fourth.

*Avatar 3* is one of only three films to hit the $1 billion milestone at the box office in 2025, alongside the live-action *Lilo & Stitch*, which grossed $1.038 billion before the summer, and the record-breaking *Zootopia 2*, now at an impressive $1.558 billion (and still climbing).

With *Avatar 3* reaching this significant milestone, fans are left wondering if Cameron will proceed with the next two sequels. “I don’t know if the saga goes beyond this point. I hope it does,” he recently stated, leaving the future of the beloved sci-fi series uncertain. “I’m not going to rule it out. I mean, I’ve got to make it in a vigorous way, to handle the kind of volume and energy of the work for another six or seven years. You know what I mean? I might not be able to do that,” he added.

For now, *Avatar 4* is still scheduled to hit theaters on December 21, 2029, with a new narrator confirmed. It seems the Toruk Makto is not returning as narrator, as Lo’ak has taken over in *Fire and Ash*.

Meanwhile, *Avatar: Fire and Ash* is currently in theaters. If you’ve already experienced this latest journey back to Pandora, check out our guides on the *Avatar: Fire and Ash* ending and whether there’s a post-credits scene.
