Schedule 1 and REPO Claim Top Spots as 2025’s Highest Rated Steam Games, Outshining Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, Dispatch, and Silksong

If you were keeping an eye on 2025, the race for Game of the Year seemed almost predictable, with Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 poised to dominate the major awards. Even with strong contenders like Baldur’s Gate 3, Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, and Alan Wake 2, Expedition 33 was expected to take home the top honors. Surprisingly, it missed out on one significant accolade: the highest-rated game on Steam.

According to Steam250, which tracks the best-reviewed Steam titles each year, Expedition 33 landed in fourth place. The top three spots were claimed by superhero management sim Dispatch in third, co-op horror game R.E.P.O. in second, and the number one position went to the drug-dealing sim Schedule 1. While Dispatch shares a similar background with Expedition 33—both being passion projects from former Telltale developers—the top two games are early access indie titles created by small teams.

At The Game Awards, Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 still led the Game of the Year nominations, with Hades 2 and Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 taking the ninth and tenth spots, respectively. Hollow Knight: Silksong rounded out the list at number 19. Notably, Donkey Kong Bananza and Death Stranding 2 are absent from Steam, so they aren’t included in these rankings (though many would argue Donkey Kong would take the top spot if it were).

It’s intriguing to see that while Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 was the talk of the town in 2025, the real darling among Steam players turned out to be the drug-dealing genre. Interestingly, Schedule 1 isn’t alone in the top 50; “BRAZILIAN DRUG DEALER 3: I OPENED A PORTAL TO HELL IN THE FAVELA TRYING TO REVIVE MIT AIA I NEED TO CLOSE IT” snagged the 45th position, surpassing titles like Where Winds Meet and Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds.

Before Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 swept The Game Awards, Sandfall was hoping to achieve an 80 Metacritic score.
