New Update Hints at Monster Hunter Wilds Switch 2 Port, Raising Questions About Performance After PC Issues

Evidence suggesting a Nintendo Switch 2 version of Monster Hunter Wilds has reportedly surfaced in the latest PC update files for the game.

According to findings shared on a community forum, players have discovered text strings and user interface elements indicating a potential Switch 2 edition. A key highlight is a Local Communication option that mentions “up to 4 people with their Nintendo Switch 2 consoles in proximity.” Additionally, there are DLSS presets labeled with NSW2, further hinting at a Switch 2 version.

The group behind the data mining has also allegedly found graphic presets for the Switch 2 edition and released a brief clip showcasing what gameplay on the new console might look like, with expected specs of 1080p in docked mode, surpassing the PC’s “Very Low” preset.

Given the ongoing performance issues surrounding Monster Hunter Wilds—especially with the PC version still struggling nearly a year post-launch—my expectations for a Switch 2 version are tempered. However, considering the popularity of handheld gaming in Japan and the franchise’s massive following there, it’s reasonable to hope that the developers will optimize the game for the new system, potentially giving it the revival it needs. Plus, the company is already backing the platform with day-one releases for titles like Pragmata and Resident Evil Requiem.

There’s also the possibility that this is merely Capcom testing the waters for a future Monster Hunter game on the Switch 2. The series has two development teams: one focused on mainline titles and another on what were traditionally the “portable” editions. This was evident with Monster Hunter 4 and Generations representing generation 4, while World and Rise made up generation 5.
