Amazon Restocks Preorders for 8BitDo 64 Retro Gray Bluetooth Controller
The new gray edition of 8BitDo’s revamped Nintendo 64 controller is now available on Amazon for $45. Set to release on January 30, this version pays homage to the classic color scheme of the original N64 controller from 1996. The 8BitDo 64 Bluetooth Controller first hit the market last August for $40, offering solid black and white options. While the gray edition comes with a slight price bump, it definitely captures that nostalgic vibe. This controller connects wirelessly to a variety of devices, including the Analogue 3D, Nintendo Switch, Switch 2, PC, Apple devices, and Android. Its redesigned shape and layout were crafted in collaboration with retro hardware maker Analogue. The 8BitDo 64 serves as the official controller for the Analogue 3D, an impressive FPGA console that runs Nintendo 64 cartridges in stunning 4K resolution. After several delays, the Analogue 3D finally launched in November. If you’re looking to grab one, the white and black versions are back in stock for $270 on Analogue’s website. Keep in mind that the console doesn’t include a controller, and the 8BitDo 64 is currently the only officially supported wireless option for it. If you encounter syncing issues with the 8BitDo 64 on Switch 2 or Analogue 3D, ensure the controller’s firmware is up to date. For subscribers of Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack, the 8BitDo 64 offers better ergonomics and is more budget-friendly compared to the official N64 controller available from Nintendo.
The Analogue 3D is a region-free console that supports every Nintendo 64 cartridge released in North America, Japan, and PAL regions, including titles that required the N64 Expansion Pak, like The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask and Donkey Kong 64. As an FPGA console, it delivers an authentic experience that closely resembles original hardware during gameplay. The visual enhancements are remarkable, with HDMI output allowing for 4K resolution display of your N64 games, as well as support for 1080p if you don’t have a 4K setup. Like other Analogue FPGA devices, the 3D features various display modes, aspect ratio options, and a range of customizable visual settings. It also comes with a built-in Expansion Pak and is compatible with original N64 accessories, featuring four controller ports for official Nintendo 64 controllers. Remember, you’ll need to supply your own controllers. If you don’t have any old N64 controllers lying around, there are affordable wired options that replicate the classic three-pronged design. The Hyperkin Captain is a solid choice, available in both translucent and solid colors. Amazon currently stocks five different colors of the Hyperkin Captain for $20-$23 each. While the 8BitDo 64 is the only wireless controller officially supported by Analogue 3D, you can also connect first-party Nintendo Switch, PlayStation, and Xbox controllers wirelessly to the Analogue 3D and original Nintendo 64 hardware using a third-party accessory like the Bitfunx BlueRetro N64 Wireless Controller Adapter.
