Lifx unveils a smart mirror and an affordable $30 dimmer switch for smart bulb control.
Lifx, a pioneer in smart lighting, is set to unveil a Matter-enabled smart mirror, its first in-wall dimmer for the US market, and a budget-friendly range of bulbs and light strips starting at approximately $12. Announced at CES this week, the company plans to upgrade its entire lineup to support Matter-over-Thread alongside Wi-Fi later this year.
The new Lifx SuperColor mirror boasts front and backlighting with specialized Makeup Check and Anti-Fog modes. It features three customizable buttons that allow direct control of other smart home devices right from the mirror. With Matter support, it can seamlessly connect to platforms like Apple Home, Amazon Alexa, and Google Home.
The 36-by-22-inch mirror can be installed either horizontally or vertically, supports hardwiring or plug-in options, and offers individually controllable front and backlighting with vibrant color effects akin to Lifx’s Lunar lamp and ceiling light. While pricing details are still under wraps, Lifx anticipates a launch in Q2 2026.
Also arriving in Q2 is the $30 Lifx Smart Dimmer, an in-wall paddle-style switch featuring four customizable buttons and a gradient light bar, all with Matter compatibility. Each button can be programmed for single, double, or long-press actions to activate other Lifx lights or smart home scenes through a compatible Matter platform.
Beyond standard LED, incandescent, and halogen bulbs, this switch can also manage Matter-compatible dimmable smart bulbs, allowing users to enjoy both smart switches and smart dimmable color lighting without compromise. It requires a neutral wire and is suitable for three-way configurations.
In a move to compete with Philips Hue, Lifx is introducing a more affordable line of smart lights. The Everyday line complements the premium SuperColor series, maintaining the brand’s impressive 90 CRI color accuracy but with reduced RGB output compared to the higher-end options, as noted by Lifx’s chief technology officer.
The first offerings in this line include the Everyday Bulb (A19), an 800-lumen, full-color, tunable white bulb with a Kelvin range of 2,700 to 6,500. These bulbs are currently available for $24 for a two-pack.
Additionally, a 20-foot Everyday Lightstrip featuring 24 addressable zones will be released this month for $39.99. The strip’s controller comes with a customizable four-button interface that can trigger scenes on any Matter-compatible platform.
All new products, along with Lifx’s existing lineup, will support Matter-over-Wi-Fi, with an over-the-air update planned for later this year to enable a switch to Thread, thanks to a dual-protocol chip. Thread is one of the networking protocols utilized by Matter.
Lifx aims to simplify the buying and setup process for customers while providing the option to transition to Thread later for its enhanced mesh coverage or to alleviate Wi-Fi congestion. “Wi-Fi is the lowest common denominator for connectivity, and while Thread has made strides in standardization and reliability, it’s still gaining traction,” explains Hollands. Offering both options allows customers to set up their products without needing a Thread network initially and switch to it later if desired.
