Arc Raiders Player Receives Urgent Assistance from Neighbor After Distress Call
Sometimes, you get so immersed in a game that you can’t help but scream. Whether it’s a curse or a cry for help, if you yell loud enough, someone might just come to your aid. That’s exactly what happened to one player in Arc Raiders, whose frantic shouts prompted a concerned neighbor to kick in their door. A Reddit user shared a 16-second clip of the incident on the Arc Raiders subreddit, detailing their experience during a night raid on the Dam Battlegrounds, the game’s inaugural map. While attempting to extract from an elevator, a Leaper attacked and downed them just before the doors closed. “I just wanted to get stabilized so I could leave,” the player explained in the comments.
In a moment of desperation, they began yelling, “Somebody help me.” And help arrived. The doorbell camera captured a neighbor approaching, knocking, and asking if everything was alright. When the player screamed for assistance again, the neighbor—who turned out to be a firefighter—stepped back, took a stance, and kicked the door in, an act that reportedly corrupted the camera’s footage.
The player later clarified that they were house-sitting for a friend at the time. Fortunately, the door didn’t break (and if it had, they promised to replace it), but they joked that “one more kick and I’m pretty sure it would’ve busted,” even with two deadbolts locked. After the door bulged ominously, they unlocked it, shared a laugh with the neighbor, and even gave him a six-pack of Shiner Bock beers as a token of appreciation for his quick thinking.
Reactions to the post were mixed. Many found the moment heartwarming, praising the firefighter as a “good dude” for stepping in when someone might have been in trouble (even if it was just in a game). Others questioned the authenticity of the video, wondering why it didn’t capture the actual door kick. The player, who mentioned being a videographer, explained that corrupted files can happen frequently, especially if a camera is turned off while recording or if the SD card is removed during data transfer. Regardless, they both “scared the ever-living sh*t out of each other” in that intense moment.
Meanwhile, Arc Raiders has been under scrutiny for its use of artificial intelligence, with the developer defending the technology for its “tremendous benefits” to players and creators alike. Despite the controversy, the extraction shooter continues to thrive, boasting 3.2 million daily active users as of January 4.
