Persona’s art director, known for the iconic “penis demon,” is developing a console game to share his unique worldview.

Kazuma Kaneko, the visionary behind the iconic and chilling demon designs in the Persona series, is gearing up to create a new console game after his recent venture into the free-to-play card game roguelike, Tsukuyomi: The Divine Hunter.

Kaneko made his mark at Atlus, serving as the art director for both Shin Megami Tensei and the original Persona series. His work has given life to memorable demon designs throughout Atlus’ extensive catalog, including the notorious Mara, known for its unique and provocative appearance.

After parting ways with Atlus in the 2010s, Kaneko joined the free-to-play developer Colopl in 2023. At Colopl, he developed Tsukuyomi for mobile and PC, which unfortunately faced criticism for its monetization strategies, despite its impressive visuals and intriguing gameplay concept.

Fans of Kaneko’s earlier work have been eagerly anticipating his return to form, and it seems that moment may be approaching. In a recent feature, Ryoji Tsunoda, an executive officer at Colopl, shared insights about the studio’s upcoming projects, including a new game in collaboration with Kaneko.

“We’re working with Kazuma Kaneko on a console game,” Tsunoda stated, as translated by an outlet. “This will allow you to experience Mr. Kaneko’s unique perspective on the world. We hope fans will look forward to it.”

While Colopl has not confirmed whether this new console title will follow the free-to-play model, the fact that it’s being developed for consoles raises hopes that it could be the premium Kaneko experience fans have been longing for.
