Silksong Claims Game of the Year Title from Clair Obscur
After a year where Hollow Knight: Silksong seemed to lag behind Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 in various Game of the Year discussions—especially at The Game Awards, where Clair Obscur took the spotlight—Team Cherry’s title has finally claimed a prestigious GOTY accolade: Game of the Year at the Steam Awards.
Unlike the main Game Awards, the Steam Awards are determined by fan votes, allowing any non-limited Steam account to cast a ballot. This didn’t diminish Clair Obscur’s appeal, as it garnered enough public support to win the Ultimate Game of the Year at the fan-driven Golden Joystick Awards.
Silksong has gained immense popularity on Steam, which likely contributed to its success in Valve’s year-end voting. The game reached an all-time peak player count of 587,150, significantly outpacing Clair Obscur’s peak by nearly four times.
The other finalists for the top award were also notable hits on Steam: Dispatch, Arc Raiders, and Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2.
Additionally, Silksong snagged the Best Game You Suck At Award, a nod to its notorious difficulty, while Clair Obscur was recognized for having the Best Soundtrack. Fans of the Tokyo Xtreme Racer series were thrilled to see its nostalgic 2000s metal-and-techno vibes earn a finalist spot in the soundtrack category, showcasing the diverse tastes of Steam voters.
The Midnight Walk was named Steam’s VR Game of the Year, Baldur’s Gate 3 took home the Labor of Love Award for its ongoing updates, Hades 2 was recognized as the Best Game on Steam Deck, and Peak won the Better With Friends Award, solidifying its status as the go-to multiplayer experience.
