8BitDo Unveils FlipPad: A Game Boy-Inspired Controller for Mobile Gaming
A new gaming controller from 8BitDo has been unveiled for smartphones, transforming your device into a next-gen Game Boy. At CES 2026, 8BitDo showcased the FlipPad, a gamepad that connects through the USB-C port of your smartphone. While details are still limited, 8BitDo confirmed that it will be compatible with both iOS and Android devices, making it a versatile option for mobile gaming.
The FlipPad features a design reminiscent of classic Nintendo controllers, boasting a traditional D-pad on the left and 12 face buttons, including the familiar four-button layout found on modern gamepads. This makes it a great choice for retro-inspired games and emulators. More information about the FlipPad is expected to be released as we approach its Summer 2026 launch.
This isn’t 8BitDo’s first venture into smartphone controllers; they also offer the Xbox-licensed Ultimate Mobile controller for both Android and iOS. Like their Ultimate controllers for PC and console, these mobile options are officially licensed and packed with features at a budget-friendly price.
The Ultimate Mobile Controller includes Hall Effect sticks, responsive face buttons, a retro-style D-pad, and comfortable contoured handles. Customization is available through 8BitDo’s software, and it accommodates smartphones ranging from 100-170mm (3.93-6.69 inches) in length. The white Xbox model retails for $46, while the black version is priced at $50. It connects wirelessly via Bluetooth, allowing compatibility with Android tablets, iPads, Macs, Apple TVs, and even the Apple Vision Pro. Battery life is impressive, with 8BitDo claiming that the 300 mAh battery can last up to 13 hours on a full charge.
