Sadie Sink Reflects on Eleven’s Uncertain Future: “Mike’s Journey is Just One Final Chapter”

Stranger Things season 5 wrapped up with a jaw-dropping twist, leaving the fate of Millie Bobby Brown’s character, Eleven, uncertain. However, Sadie Sink, who portrays Max Mayfield, has her own perspective on what might have happened to the powerful hero.

“I think she’s dead,” Sink stated during an appearance on a late-night talk show when asked about Eleven’s survival. “I see Mike’s story as just one last chapter, marking the end of their childhood. It’s a final tale, and that’s it.”

The ‘story’ Sink mentions refers to Mike’s vision in the epilogue, set 18 months after Eleven’s self-sacrifice. Following the climactic battle where Eleven and her friends defeat Vecna and return to Hawkins, she steps back into the gate just as Hopper’s explosive device detonates, sacrificing herself to prevent Dr. Brenner and the military from using her to reopen the gate.

Despite this, Mike holds onto the belief that Eleven survived, imagining that she escaped while Kali, who was injured and trapped in the Upside Down, created a hologram of her. This allowed the real Eleven to slip away unnoticed and find freedom. In Mike’s mind, she’s out there exploring the world, searching for a place with the waterfalls they once dreamed about.

So, what’s the real story? The truth remains a mystery known only to Millie Bobby Brown and the Duffer brothers. On a podcast, co-creator Matt Duffer mentioned, “Ross and I know, and we were just talking to Millie about it,” adding, “she’s not going to tell you either… Millie swore herself to secrecy.”

The entire Stranger Things series is currently available for streaming.
