James Gunn Clarifies Kraglin Rumor: “Reshoots Often Involve These Adjustments”
James Gunn has set the record straight regarding a rumor about a character from Guardians of the Galaxy going “off-script” in the 2014 Marvel film.
In a clip shared on Threads, we see Yondu (Michael Rooker) and Kraglin (Sean Gunn) meeting the Broker to inquire about the Orb containing the Power Stone. When the Broker fails to provide answers, Yondu starts mocking him with gibberish, which the clip suggests was improvised and led to Sean Gunn “breaking character.”
Gunn responded by clarifying, “Nope. Both Yondu’s mocking and Kraglin suppressing a smile were scripted.”
He elaborated, “What is true is I shot the closeup of Sean in pickups because I didn’t grab one on the day and I needed a cutaway. So he was actually in front of a blue screen for that shot, and we comped in an empty plate of the background from the day. So, yeah, hardly ‘breaking character.’ When you hear about ‘reshoots,’ these are usually the types of things my team is doing.”
After directing the Guardians of the Galaxy trilogy for Marvel Studios from 2014 to 2023, Gunn now leads DC Studios. He directed last year’s hit Superman and will return to helm Man of Tomorrow, a sort-of-sequel featuring the Man of Steel and Lex Luthor, set for release in 2027.
Next on Gunn’s DCU agenda is Supergirl, with Milly Alcock from House of the Dragon taking on the role of Kara Zor-El.
Supergirl is set to hit theaters on June 26.
