Lies Of P Developers Embrace AI to Enhance Player Engagement
Neowiz, the studio behind Lies of P, positions itself as a “forward-thinking technology company.” Co-CEO Sean Kim shared that this vision includes exploring various tech solutions, particularly AI, to enhance the company’s future operations. He noted that South Korea, where Neowiz is headquartered, is among the countries where ChatGPT is widely utilized. “It’s tough to find a game company here today that isn’t leveraging AI in some capacity,” Kim remarked, mentioning that most companies are either using ChatGPT or Gemini.
For Neowiz, Kim emphasized that the “primary focus” of their AI initiatives is on research and development, aiming to automate routine operational tasks. This could involve streamlining processes like test case management and analyzing extensive operational data. By integrating AI into their workflows, Neowiz aims to enable their teams to “work faster” and dedicate more resources to refining core strategies that enhance “player engagement.” Kim explained that quicker data processing would lead to more informed strategic decisions, ultimately benefiting both developers and the gaming community.
This approach mirrors sentiments expressed by other developers, such as Larian, the team behind Baldur’s Gate, who have indicated a desire to use AI tools for mundane tasks, allowing their staff to focus on creative aspects and improve game quality. While Kim did not delve into specific AI technologies Neowiz plans to adopt, it’s clear that AI’s role in gaming and tech is expanding. However, the rise of AI has sparked criticism, with concerns about job displacement. For instance, some Candy Crush developers laid off by Activision Blizzard reported being replaced by AI tools they helped create. Additionally, a recent report suggested that EA might explore further AI integration to accelerate development during its private sale to an investor group.
