The 2026 Asus ROG Zephyrus G14 Features Bold AMD Configuration Options

Asus has rolled out its lineup of Zephyrus G14 gaming laptops at CES this week, and this year’s specs are taking a notable turn. While the brand has traditionally leaned towards AMD, this time around, it’s making a significant pivot towards Intel, offering only one AMD variant, and it’s a less powerful option.

This year, both AMD and Intel are represented in the G14 lineup, a shift from previous models that were heavily AMD-focused. However, it seems that Intel has taken the lead. Making its debut at CES 2026, the new Intel Panther Lake Asus ROG Zephyrus G14 boasts significantly more power compared to its AMD counterpart.

The Intel model can be configured with either an RTX 5080 or RTX 5070 Ti, paired with the latest Ultra 9 CPU and up to 64GB of RAM. In contrast, the AMD version has dropped the Strix Point Ryzen AI 9 HX 370 option from 2025, opting instead for a more budget-friendly Gorgon Point AI 400 model, which comes with an RTX 5060 GPU and a maximum of 32GB RAM—a noticeable downgrade compared to Intel’s offerings.

While AMD has held the spotlight in some of the best Asus gaming laptops over the past few years, it now finds itself in the budget-friendly category. This is a surprising shift.

Design-wise, this year’s model doesn’t stray far from its predecessor, featuring only a brighter OLED display with the Nebula HDR system, a new hinge, and enhanced control over its Slash Lighting zones. It resembles the 2025 Asus ROG Zephyrus G14, which performed admirably with Strix Point and an RTX 5080 last year, but it seems to have been sidelined in 2026.

For Intel enthusiasts, this is exciting news. It’s the first time we’ve seen Intel take the lead in one of Asus’ more compact designs, and I’m eager to see what Panther Lake brings to the table. AMD fans can also find some silver lining here; with minor upgrades to the brand’s mobile chips, last year’s Ryzen AI 9 HX 370 models could provide excellent value as prices continue to drop.

Asus has yet to reveal pricing or release dates for any of its 2026 configurations.
