Escape From Tarkov Developers Crank Up the Challenge with Even Tougher Ending
After an extensive eight-year wait, players can finally dive into the world of Escape from Tarkov. However, reaching the new end-game area, Terminal, is no walk in the park, and the journey to its conclusion is fraught with challenges. In response to feedback from some players who found the escape too tough, developer Battlestate Games has opted to ramp up the difficulty even further.
With the highly anticipated 1.0.0.2 update released on December 1st last year, Battlestate introduced four distinct endings to Escape from Tarkov’s grueling 200-hour campaign. Navigating through the relentless onslaught of AI enemies is a daunting task, especially after being stripped of all your gear. The challenge intensifies as you approach Terminal’s final obstacle. According to reports, after some players voiced their concerns about the difficulty, the developers decided it still wasn’t tough enough.
If you haven’t tackled Terminal yet, be warned that spoilers are ahead. The full release update introduced a harsh choice: players must board a boat to escape, but it only accommodates three people. Given that the standard squad size is five, this means two players must stay behind, facing a nuclear explosion while the others escape (resulting in one of Escape from Tarkov’s “bad” endings). Understandably, this decision sparked significant backlash within the community.
One notable voice was streamer Velion, who expressed a desire for a change, suggesting that everyone should be able to escape together. He envisioned a scenario where players could collaborate on a challenging map and all make it out alive. He directed his feedback to Battlestate Games, tagging studio head Nikita Buyanov in his tweet. Buyanov responded with a simple “it’s changed already,” which led many to believe that escaping Tarkov with your squad was now a possibility.
However, it turns out Buyanov was joking, as the changes actually made things worse. As other players have pointed out, the number of survivors who can escape at the end of Terminal has been reduced to just one. While you could opt to tackle Terminal solo to avoid the dilemma of who gets to live, that seems to miss the essence of the game. Escape from Tarkov has always been about building connections and camaraderie, and watching your friends get consumed by a nuclear blast while you sail off alone feels all too fitting.
