Fortnite Collaborates with South Park This Week
Fortnite’s next big crossover is on the horizon: South Park is set to invade Epic Games’ battle royale on January 9, as teased on Fortnite’s social media. The specifics of how South Park will integrate into the Fortnite universe remain a mystery. How will iconic characters like Cartman, Kenny, Stan, and Kyle adapt to the Fortnite aesthetic?
Neither Epic nor the South Park team has detailed how this collaboration will unfold ahead of the launch. However, a teaser image shows Butters entering a five-player lobby, sporting Lil Whip as his Fortnite skin. Interestingly, Butters appears to be playing on MacOS, though that might not indicate anything significant.
Given the prominence of the South Park cast, fans are speculating on a few potential scenarios for the crossover. One possibility is that the South Park kids could serve as Sidekicks, the indestructible companions introduced in Fortnite in late 2025. A recent crossover with SpongeBob SquarePants saw him relegated to Sidekick status instead of becoming a combat-ready character.
Another option could see the South Park kids outfitted similarly to Bart and Lisa Simpson, who donned mechanized exoskeletons during their crossover to match Fortnite’s adult characters and avoid the absurdity of children wielding firearms.
Personally, I’m rooting for a third scenario: transforming the South Park kids into adult versions, perhaps inspired by their ninja forms from “Good Times with Weapons” or their adult appearances from “South Park: Post COVID.” Alternatively, something entirely new that acknowledges the challenge of fitting 2D cartoon characters into Fortnite’s 3D environment would be exciting.
More details about the Fortnite and South Park event will be revealed soon, so stay tuned for surprises. Who knows, maybe even Satan will be gunning for a Victory Royale!
