Carmageddon: Rogue Shift Transforms Zombie Apocalypse Into a Thrilling Drive-Die-Drive Cycle

After more than ten years since its last installment, the Carmageddon franchise is making a comeback with Carmageddon: Rogue Shift. Developed by 34BigThings, known for their work on Redout, this new spin-off places players in the role of a nameless driver navigating a post-apocalyptic world ravaged by war, disasters, and a zombie outbreak instigated by megacorporations. In this universe, the undead, referred to as the Wasted, threaten humanity while players engage in lethal races for dominance, glory, and the chance to escape the turmoil by launching themselves off Earth in a rocket.

What sets Rogue Shift apart is its strong emphasis on roguelite mechanics. Players will traverse procedurally generated tracks and face various events to earn upgrade credits. Even if you meet an untimely end, you can unlock permanent bonuses with beatcoins to enhance your next attempt. Each run demands strategic planning for your route, as your vehicle will need repairs along the journey. The game also features a dynamic difficulty curve, but mastering the right combinations of vehicles, perks, and weapons will empower you to create the ultimate machine for battling both the Wasted and rival racers.

With 13 weapon classes and over 80 perks available, players can customize their experience extensively. Each of the 15 unlockable vehicles boasts distinct handling traits influenced by factors like drivetrain, weight, center of mass, suspension, tire friction, and pressure. “We designed Carmageddon: Rogue Shift to challenge you in a way that keeps you engaged. Our aim is to immerse you in that exhilarating flow state we fondly recall from the original Carmageddon titles and the combat racing games that shaped the genre,” stated head of design Giuseppe Enrico Franchi in a blog post. Carmageddon: Rogue Shift is set to launch in early 2026 for PC, PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and Switch 2.
