New StarCraft Shooter Expected to Debut at BlizzCon

StarCraft might be gearing up for a revival, as recent reports suggest a third-person shooter set in Blizzard’s iconic sci-fi universe could be unveiled at this year’s BlizzCon. According to insights from a source familiar with Xbox’s plans, this StarCraft shooter could take center stage at Blizzard’s fan convention in September. While specifics about the game, including its multiplayer capabilities, remain scarce, it was initially mentioned in 2024 by a notable industry insider in a book discussing Blizzard’s journey. The project is reportedly being led by Dan Hay, a former key figure from the Far Cry series. The source has confirmed the game’s existence but hasn’t provided further details on its design or gameplay.

This isn’t Blizzard’s first attempt at a StarCraft shooter; the studio previously scrapped a project called StarCraft: Ghost in the mid-2000s. This spin-off would have allowed players to step into the role of a “Ghost” operative, set after the events of the Brood War expansion. Although the game vanished from the spotlight for years, it wasn’t until 2014 that Blizzard’s then-president officially acknowledged its cancellation.

While StarCraft has been relatively quiet at Blizzard over the past decade, with the last campaign pack released in 2016, it has made appearances in other Blizzard titles through various crossovers. Recently, StarCraft-themed skins were introduced in Diablo 4, and Hearthstone featured a complete StarCraft-themed card set early last year. As for what else fans can anticipate at BlizzCon 2026, there are rumors of another Diablo 4 expansion announcement just six months after the launch of Lord of Hatred, along with new information regarding World of Warcraft’s The Last Titan expansion and updates on Overwatch.
