Fortnite’s South Park Collaboration is Impressively Cool
On Wednesday, Epic Games unveiled an exciting crossover for fans of both Fortnite and South Park, featuring Cartman, Kenny, Stan, Kyle, and Butters making their way into the battle royale universe later this week. The South Park crew is arriving in full-sized glory, equipped with mech suits reminiscent of the ones seen in a previous crossover. However, this Fortnite x South Park collaboration promises to be even more expansive, introducing dedicated points of interest like Cartmanland to the island.
In a fun twist, Towelie is also making an appearance, likely as an upcoming Fortnite Sidekick.
A newly released animated short from South Park gives a sneak peek into the crossover, showcasing how Cartman, Kenny, Stan, and Kyle frequently dive into battle royale matches, often forgetting to invite Butters. This backstory sets the stage for Butters’ transformation into Professor Chaos, as he seeks revenge on his friends using the Stick of Truth from South Park: The Stick of Truth, sending them into Fortnite’s world.
In this new setting, the characters will face off in custom mech outfits that cleverly reference classic South Park episodes. For instance, Cartman dons an advanced Awesom-O robot suit inspired by the season 8 episode “Awesom-O,” while Stan sports a look based on Cyborg Bill from the season 3 episode “Chinpokomon.” Meanwhile, Kenny, who is using a free Battle Pass Peely skin, has to piece together his mech suit from discarded items. These outfits will be available in the Fortnite shop, and players can also earn additional items through a free Born in Chaos pass.
The South Park event in Fortnite kicks off on Friday and runs until February 5. The update will also introduce Quints, a five-person playlist, allowing players to include that extra friend in their squad.
And yes, the creators of South Park have acknowledged that The Simpsons paved the way for this kind of crossover.
