CD Projekt Red has a wealth of exciting games on the horizon, but the wait to dive into these new adventures feels like being starved in front of a buffet. The studio has confirmed a variety of projects in development, including a follow-up to The Witcher 3 that will kick off a multi-game saga, a sequel to Cyberpunk 2077, and even a remake of the original Witcher game. There’s a lot to be excited about.
As a studio renowned for delivering some of the greatest RPGs ever, the prospect of new journeys is thrilling. Reflecting on the impact of The Witcher 3 over the past decade, which has shaped the genre and influenced open-world design, it’s no surprise that the next Witcher installment is among the most anticipated games out there.

In March 2022, CD Projekt Red confirmed The Witcher 4 is in the works, offering a glimpse of what promises to be a story-driven open-world RPG that builds on the legacy of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. This time, the game is being developed using Unreal Engine 5, moving away from the studio’s RED Engine, which powered both The Witcher 3 and Cyberpunk 2077. The goal is to achieve stunning visual fidelity and depth in this new single-player experience.
A trailer released during The Game Awards 2024 revealed that Ciri will be the main protagonist, showcasing her monster-slaying prowess in cinematic style. Excitingly, this installment is just the start of a new saga. The anticipation for The Witcher 4 is already intense, so if you want to get hyped, consider tackling some of the best adventure games to clear your backlog.

Since The Witcher 4 is the first part of a new AAA RPG trilogy, CD Projekt Red is also developing a complete trilogy of Witcher games. The original trilogy spanned eight years and provided diverse experiences, with the first game being a PC exclusive and The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings not making it to PlayStation.
With these three new Witcher titles, CDPR aims to deliver them all within a six-year timeframe following the release of Polaris, promising a more cohesive gaming experience.

The Witcher Sirius is an exciting new entry set in The Witcher universe, developed by The Molasses Flood, a studio acquired by CDPR in 2021, known for its survival games like The Flame in the Flood and Drake Hollow. CD Projekt Red has stated that Codename Sirius will differ from previous productions by incorporating multiplayer gameplay alongside a single-player campaign featuring quests and a narrative.
Expect a fresh take on The Witcher universe, especially since development of The Witcher Sirius has reportedly been rebooted, with The Molasses Flood collaborating closely with CDPR to ensure it meets expectations.

While CDPR focuses on its new trilogy, it’s also collaborating with external studios to expand The Witcher universe. Initially codenamed The Witcher Canis Majoris, this project has been revealed as a full remake of the original Witcher game, reimagined for modern audiences.
This remake will be developed in partnership with an external studio led by experienced developers from past Witcher titles, specifically Fool’s Theory. Like The Witcher 4, it will utilize Unreal Engine 5, but CDPR has cautioned that it will be some time before more details are shared.

A few years ago, it seemed unlikely we’d see a sequel to Cyberpunk 2077. However, after significant updates and improvements, CD Projekt Red appears to have stabilized Night City. With over 20 million copies sold and a record-breaking player count on Steam, the studio has begun production on a new game.
Cyberpunk Orion is described as a sequel that will showcase the full potential of the Cyberpunk universe, with plans to further explore this dark fantasy setting. While details are scarce, expect Cyberpunk 2077 Orion to launch well after The Witcher 4.

In addition to the new trilogy of Witcher games and the Cyberpunk 2077 sequel, CD Projekt Red is also working on another project. Since 2021, the studio has been developing a standalone IP that is separate from both The Witcher and Cyberpunk 2077. Project Hadar is still in the conceptual phase.
Hadar is a codename for a completely new IP being created from scratch within CDPR. Currently, the project is in the early stages of development, focusing on laying the groundwork for this new setting. Updates on Project Hadar are likely to be a long time coming.
