Phasmophobia Developer Launches Indie Publishing Venture to Foster Creativity After 25 Million Sales

The team behind Phasmophobia, one of the standout indie successes of the decade, is leveraging its impressive achievements to support fellow indie developers with a new publishing initiative.

Kinetic Games has unveiled Kinetic Publishing, a new arm dedicated to fostering innovation in the indie game development scene. This initiative aims to assist teams working on a variety of genres, focusing on a select number of projects.

Kinetic Publishing will offer “financial, legal, and marketing support, along with broader development guidance” to small teams and solo developers worldwide who are approximately 12-18 months from their launch. Developers interested in pitching their games can do so, but it’s important to note that Kinetic Publishing is not looking to sign projects centered around blockchain or AI-generated content.

“It’s an exhilarating time for indie game development, and I’ve learned so much over the past five years,” says CEO Daniel Knight, who began his journey as a solo developer. “Our growth as a company has put us in a position to support studios under our wing, providing the kind of assistance I would have valued at the start of my career.”

Marketing director Asim Tanvir emphasizes that the goal is to “join the ranks of supportive indie publishers who promote and nurture creativity.” This move is reminiscent of similar initiatives from other successful titles like Palworld and Among Us, which have also launched their own publishing arms to help other developers.

For over a year, Pocketpair Publishing (from the creators of Palworld) and Outersloth (the team behind Among Us) have been aiding indie developers, resulting in a diverse array of intriguing and unique games.

As for Kinetic Games, not much will change for them. The studio’s co-op horror hit has sold over 25 million copies, and the team will continue to focus entirely on Phasmophobia and its ongoing early access updates, which are set to introduce a new map and the Chronicle Update later this year.
