The first trailer for A24’s upcoming horror podcast gave me chills, and I can’t wait for its release!

I don’t know about you, but the sound design in horror films gets to me far more than the visuals ever could. It’s not the shocking images of dismemberment or grotesque faces that send chills down my spine; it’s the faint whispers lurking in the shadows or a sudden, jarring noise breaking the silence that really gets my heart racing.

So, it’s no surprise that A24’s upcoming film, Undertone, has me on the edge of my seat – and I can hardly contain my excitement. If you think I’m overhyping it, just take a look at the spine-tingling first trailer.

The two-minute teaser kicks off with Nina Kiri’s character, Evie, a podcast host introducing her show, where they delve into all things eerie. She labels herself the “in-house skeptic” before passing the mic to her remote co-host, Michael Leiver, who has received ten creepy voice recordings from an anonymous source. These clips are said to be filled with haunted messages, but Evie is skeptical—until they start playing them in reverse…

What follows is a chilling montage of increasingly disturbing visuals, accompanied by a haunting soundtrack of wails, screams, raspy breaths, unsettling music, and a sinister child’s voice saying, “I like it here in the dark.” While the teaser doesn’t showcase them, the supporting cast includes Kris Holden-Ried, Michèle Duquet, Keana Lyn Bastidas, Sarah Beaudin, Seled Calderon, and Adam DiMarco.

Described as a “nerve-shredding, audio-driven nightmare” and a “diabolically terrifying” experience, it definitely gives off vibes reminiscent of Host and Pulse – perfect for those who don’t mind keeping the lights on at night.

Directed by Ian Tuason, Undertone is set to release on March 13.
