Speculation Grows Around a Potential Witcher 3 Expansion Release
As 2024 approaches its conclusion, CD Projekt Red has officially kicked off full development on The Witcher 4, though fans may have to wait a while for its release. In the meantime, speculation is swirling about a potential new expansion for The Witcher 3, which would be the first since the acclaimed Blood and Wine dropped in 2016. Reports from various sources suggest that the studio is motivated to deliver fresh content this year, possibly due to falling short of sales targets that would activate financial incentives for their team. The company hinted during a 2025 investor call that new content could be on the horizon, stating, “There is a chance that new content hinted upon in recent calls and reports may see release in the coming year, having an impact on our results and increasing the likelihood of achieving the earnings condition for the first stage of the incentive program.”
Speculative details from one report suggest that the expansion might explore Zerrikania, an exotic desert region located to the far east of The Witcher 3’s existing map. This area was previously referenced in Blood and Wine with the Zerrikanian Manticore School, which could provide a rich narrative thread if the rumors hold true. As of now, these reports remain unconfirmed. CD Projekt Red has announced that The Witcher 3 will receive one last update, enabling console players to access many mods that have been available to PC players for years. However, this update has been delayed to late 2025. Additionally, fans can look forward to The Witcher Season 5, which is set to conclude its run on Netflix in 2026.
