GTA 6 Delay Rumor Clarified: Reporter Claims Statement Was Misunderstood

Grand Theft Auto 6 is still a little over 10 months away, assuming it sticks to its November 2026 release window. Recently, fans were thrown into a bit of a frenzy when a well-known industry insider mentioned that the game might not be as “content complete” as previously claimed by the developers, leaving the door open for another potential delay. This led some to speculate that GTA 6 had already been pushed back again, prompting the insider to clarify his remarks.

During a recent chat on a gaming podcast, he stated, “The last I heard, [GTA 6] was still not content complete. That is to say people were still finishing things up, still finalizing levels, and missions, and seeing what is going to make it into the game.” He emphasized that no one at the studio could guarantee a November release with absolute certainty. He also mentioned that he “wouldn’t be shocked if GTA 6 ‘does’ come out this fall, following the same delay pattern as [Red Dead Redemption 2].” He characterized some of the ensuing reports as a “complete misunderstanding” of his comments, reiterating that while another delay is possible, the situation is being misrepresented.

As has been noted before, the studio has a history of delaying its major titles, and GTA 6 has already faced two delays. Reports suggest that the current delay could cost the studio over $60 million. Some analysts are even speculating that the standard edition of GTA 6 could be priced at $100, which might set a precedent for other titles to follow suit. For now, the studio has not confirmed a price for GTA 6. The game is set to launch on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S on November 19.
