Avowed, the Xbox Exclusive RPG, Set to Launch on PS5 with Exciting New Features
Avowed, the upcoming RPG from Obsidian set to launch in 2025, is making its way to PlayStation 5. This announcement came during the New Game+ Showcase, revealing that the PS5 version will hit shelves on February 17, 2026, just shy of a year after its initial release on Xbox Series X/S and PC. Microsoft, which acquired Obsidian in 2018, continues to publish the game.
Set in the Pillars of Eternity universe, Avowed is a first-person action RPG where players delve into a mysterious plague while navigating a vast world filled with combat, weapons, and magic. Alongside the PS5 release, an anniversary update will be rolled out for all platforms, introducing a “New Game Plus” mode that allows players to transfer their gear to a new character starting at level 1, along with facing modified enemies. The update will also feature a photo mode, three new playable races, the option to change character appearance from the overworld, and a new weapon type.
The PS5 version will include all previously released content and updates. Players can preorder Avowed on the PlayStation Store for $50, or opt for the Premium Edition at $60, which comes with a digital artbook, soundtrack, two additional player armors, and eight companion skins. Currently, there are no announcements regarding a physical release.
In reviews, Avowed has garnered a score of 6/10, with critiques highlighting its potential but noting that it struggles to deliver on its promises. The combat is described as impactful and offers experimentation, yet it is hindered by a heavy reliance on gear upgrades and limited resources, which detracts from the creative freedom it initially presents. Avowed joins a growing list of Microsoft-published titles making their way to PS5, including Grounded, Hi-Fi Rush, Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, and Forza Horizon 5. Additionally, a PS5 and Switch 2 version of South of Midnight was announced during the 2025 Game Awards.
