PUBG: Blindspot Set to Launch in Early Access Next Month
Almost a year ago, Krafton kicked off the beta for PUBG: Blindspot, marking the first spin-off from PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds, aside from PUBG Mobile. Now, the studio has revealed that Blindspot will enter early access on February 5. This new title takes a different approach, featuring a top-down view and emphasizing 5v5 tactical battles. Attackers must navigate through a building to access a vault and deploy a device known as the Decrypter. Players can utilize specific weapons like grenade launchers and explosive hammers to demolish walls obstructing their path. Meanwhile, defenders can erect barricades to hinder their opponents, but ultimately, these encounters hinge on gunplay. The recently released trailer highlights several enhancements for the early-access version, including improved visuals, UI updates, balance tweaks, and refined controls. Krafton describes this build as having a “launch-ready level of quality” to support ongoing development. “Early access will allow players to directly participate in the development process,” stated Seungmyeong Yang, the game’s production director. “Through free-to-play, open development, we aim to communicate closely with the community and complete PUBG: Blindspot together.” Initially, PUBG: Blindspot will be available exclusively on PC. The game is free-to-play, and Krafton plans to roll out monthly updates while gathering player feedback through the game’s Discord channel. The company has expressed its ambition for PUBG to evolve into a platform similar to Fortnite. Additionally, Krafton has faced criticism for its goal of becoming an “AI-first” company. Brendan “PlayerUnknown” Greene, the creator of PUBG, has expressed that he is “really heartened” by the pushback against AI in gaming. Although Greene remains with Krafton, he is also focused on new projects, including his open-world survival game, Prologue: Go Wayback, which launched in early access last year.
