Samsung Alerts That RAM Shortages Could Drive Up Prices for TVs and Devices

The rising demand for AI technology among tech firms is a key factor contributing to the ongoing global shortage of memory chips. This situation is expected to negatively impact smartphone production, but Samsung Electronics co-CEO T M Roh has also indicated that TVs and home appliances could face similar shortages and price increases. “As this situation is unprecedented, no company is immune to its impact,” Roh stated. He emphasized that both TVs and home appliances will be affected, and he did not rule out potential price hikes as a response. As the world’s largest TV manufacturer, Samsung is particularly vulnerable, with Roh acknowledging that the effects of RAM shortages will be “inevitable.”

This rise in consumer electronics prices could complicate Microsoft’s “This Is an Xbox” initiative, especially since smart TVs, including those from Samsung, are increasingly capable of running Game Pass titles. On a more positive note, Roh mentioned that Samsung is collaborating with its production partners to develop strategies aimed at mitigating the effects of the memory shortages. Meanwhile, Nvidia may be considering a different strategy to address the soaring GPU prices by potentially bringing back the previously discontinued GeForce RTX 3060 GPUs. This has yet to be confirmed, as Nvidia had shifted focus to the more advanced and pricier 40 and 50 series GPUs. Additionally, Samsung has announced plans to integrate Google’s Gemini AI into 800 million units this year, further driving the demand for RAM across its product lineup.
