Creators of the charming creature-collecting sim Moonstone Island unveil their upcoming game, described as “not a sequel, but also not not a sequel.”

Indie developer Studio Supersoft has just unveiled its next project set in the same enchanting universe as the charming life simulation creature-collector, Moonstone Island.

Kicking off the new year with a surprise, the team shared a teaser clip on social media, inviting fans to guess what’s coming next. The new title is called Moonstone Academy, which the developers describe as a blend of a sequel and something entirely different.

“Not DLC but not a sequel but also not not a sequel,” they tweeted. “Another entry into the Moonstone universe.”

The teaser for Moonstone Academy showcases the same stunning pixel art style as its predecessor, featuring a character in uniform racing up a staircase before soaring off on a magical bike equipped with propellers.

From this reveal, it seems the game will take place in a magical school setting, with aerial adventures likely playing a significant role. While details remain sparse, it’s expected that the creature collection and life simulation elements that fans loved in Moonstone Island will return in some form.

Moonstone Island has received a Very Positive rating on Steam, with players praising its clever blend of mechanics from both Stardew Valley and Slay the Spire, creating a unique experience.

Here are the upcoming indie games of 2026 and beyond.
