Simu Liu Teases a Deeper, More Developed Shang-Chi in Avengers: Doomsday

Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings stands out as one of the most invigorating Marvel films in the post-Endgame landscape, making the wait for his return to the big screen all the more frustrating. Fortunately, he’s set to join forces with Earth’s Mightiest Heroes in Avengers: Doomsday, and according to Simu Liu, he’s ready to hold his own in the chaos.

In a recent chat, Liu teased what fans can expect from Shang-Chi as he dives into the multiverse conflict. “He’s older,” Liu noted. “I’m older, so I get to bring a bit more self-assurance to the role, especially since Shang was such a fish out of water. There’s a bit of a time jump, so we’ll find him in a place where he’s more comfortable with who he is and his responsibilities.”

Even though the film won’t hit theaters until late 2026, Liu is committed to keeping details under wraps, despite occasionally sharing behind-the-scenes glimpses.

“I never know when something I say will turn into a soundbite,” he admitted. “I remember being freezing cold on the rooftop of the Empire State Building when they asked about his costume, and I just said, ‘Oh, it’s new.’ That spiraled into a whirlwind of mixed messages. Now, I’m very cautious about what I reveal.”

For now, fans will have to stay tuned for more updates from Marvel Studios as we count down to Avengers: Doomsday, set to premiere on December 18, 2026.
