Maxis Affirms Commitment to Core Values as It Develops the Next Chapter of The Sims Following EA Acquisition

The team at Maxis has reassured fans that the developers behind The Sims remain dedicated to inclusivity, retain their creative autonomy, and are focused on enhancing single-player experiences as we move into the new year.

This public reassurance likely stems from concerns regarding EA’s upcoming $55 billion acquisition, which would see Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund, Silver Lake, and Affinity Partners—founded by Jared Kushner—take ownership, leaving the publisher with a hefty $20 billion debt.

As previously noted, several content creators from The Sims 4 have stepped away from EA’s Creator Network in light of these developments, expressing long-term worries about the values of the new ownership.

In a blog post, Maxis stated, “The Sims has always been more than a game. It’s a canvas for life in all its unpredictable forms…the chaotic moments, the tiny joys, the big dreams, every identity, every version of you. And, thanks to you, The Sims has grown into something bigger than we ever imagined: a living world bursting with creativity, expression, humor, chaos, and heart.”

The studio emphasized that their “creative control, guided by our values of inclusivity, choice, creativity, community, and play, has not changed,” and they are committed to upholding these principles in the future.

Maxis also highlighted that the core of the series—its deep single-player simulations—will remain intact. “We’ll continue to deliver content and updates to The Sims 4 and we are committed to improving the experience,” they stated. “Single-player PC and console experiences will always be a part of our future, with more than half of our global development team dedicated to The Sims 4 and the next evolution.”

While it was already known that Project Renew is not The Sims 5, the team has clarified that it is more of a mobile-first game designed to emphasize social multiplayer gameplay.
