K-pop Takes the Lead in Demon Hunter Showdown at the Golden Globes
The animated hit KPop Demon Hunters celebrated two victories at the 2026 Golden Globes last night. The first win was for its chart-topping track “Golden,” which snagged the award for Best Original Song for a Motion Picture, outshining contenders like Wicked: For Good’s “No Place Like Home,” “The Girl in a Bubble,” and Sinners’ “I Lied to You.”
But the accolades didn’t stop there; KPop Demon Hunters also secured a Golden Globe for Best Animated Feature, triumphing over its fierce competitor, the anime Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle.
Both films received nominations, with Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle achieving a remarkable milestone as the highest-grossing anime movie ever, crossing the 100 billion yen mark globally. This made it the first Japanese film to reach such heights, even surpassing the total box office earnings of every Marvel and DC release in 2025—a significant accomplishment.
Despite its success, anime fans were disappointed as it couldn’t outshine KPop Demon Hunters, which has been a cultural phenomenon since its release in June last year. The film has dominated the Billboard charts and captured the hearts of audiences everywhere. The voice actors for the characters Ejae (Rumi), Audrey Nuna (Mira), and Rei Ami (Zoey) have become icons in their own right, performing live on shows like Jimmy Kimmel and at the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade.
Both films excel in their respective styles, appealing to different audiences while sharing a common theme of demon hunting. KPop Demon Hunters delivers its action with catchy tunes, while Tanjiro and his crew face off against the sinister Muzan and his demons with a more intense narrative. Though Infinity Castle may not be as family-friendly as KPop Demon Hunters, it’s definitely a must-watch for any anime enthusiast or casual viewer alike.
