Palworld Aims to Capture the Trading Card Market This Year
Palworld: Official Card Game, an exciting new trading card game inspired by Pocketpair’s creature-collecting adventure, has been announced. Set to launch on July 30, this game promises to deliver a competitive experience for two players. According to the developers, players will engage in strategic and tactical battles by deploying their unique Pals onto the battlefield. The gameplay involves fighting alongside these companions, gathering resources, and constructing bases to secure victory. Each Pal boasts distinct traits, and mastering their abilities can lead to triumph.
The buzz around a Palworld trading card game began last year when Pocketpair and a subsidiary of Animate acquired shares in a Japanese card game publisher. This move was part of a broader strategy, as Pocketpair established Palworld Entertainment to enhance merchandising opportunities for the franchise. However, the journey hasn’t been without challenges. Pocketpair is currently embroiled in a legal dispute with Nintendo, stemming from similarities between Palworld and the Pokémon franchise, including a cozy spin-off titled Palworld: Palfarm, which bears a resemblance to Pokémon Pokopia. In response to Nintendo’s concerns, Pocketpair has made adjustments to certain gameplay elements. The situation has become even more intricate following a directive from the head of the United States Patent and Trademark Office to reassess Nintendo’s patent related to the core gameplay mechanic of summoning characters to battle in video games.
