Palworld Launches Its Own Card Game to Compete with Pokémon TCG
Palworld, the monster-collecting survival game from Pocketpair often described as “Pokémon with guns,” is branching out into tabletop gaming, mirroring the expansion of the Pokémon franchise. On January 12, Pocketpair unveiled the Palworld Official Card Game, set to debut on July 30, 2026.
According to details shared on a new official site, the Palworld TCG is a competitive two-player card game that emphasizes strategic and tactical battles using a variety of unique Pals. Just like in the video game, players will team up with their Pals, gather resources, and construct bases as part of the gameplay. An official trailer showcases a Cattiva Pal from the Palworld video game approaching a large silhouette of a card back, followed by the reveal of a Lamball card, which then springs the woolly creature to life. The same happens with a Chillet and an Anubis, culminating in a Grizzbolt using its minigun to zap a group of Chikipis.
The trailer also highlights a Mimog, Gloopie, Lovander, and numerous other Pals from various game updates, suggesting that the TCG will feature more than just the original 137 Pals introduced during the early access launch in January 2024, although some footage appears to be reused from earlier trailers. Official descriptions indicate that Pals in the TCG will leverage their unique traits to secure victory, and since we see Grizzbolt’s Partner Skill in action, it’s likely that these abilities will be incorporated into the card game alongside traditional moves.
However, the specifics of how players will “fight alongside their Pal companions” remain somewhat ambiguous. Combat will likely center around Pal cards, with players taking on a commander role. Given that player engagement in combat is a key aspect of the video game, it’s reasonable to expect a similar dynamic in the card game. Equipment cards, particularly weapons, may enable players to attack directly.
Resource gathering could take various forms as well. Resources might accumulate passively each turn or be linked to specific card types that players must deploy, akin to land cards in Magic: The Gathering or energy cards in the Pokémon TCG. Base-building will probably occur in a designated area on the board, separate from the combat zone, where players can place buildings and crafting stations, mirroring the video game experience.
The Palworld Trading Card Game is being developed by Bushiroad, known for their card games like Weiß Schwarz and Cardfight!! Vanguard. In Bushiroad’s titles, combat typically revolves around units, so it remains to be seen how they will adapt the mechanics of Palworld. While Pocketpair has not yet disclosed further details about gameplay mechanics, the confirmed release date in July suggests that more information will be forthcoming in the months ahead.
Overall, this is an intriguing development for Palworld, which is currently embroiled in a legal dispute with Nintendo over alleged patent infringement. Additionally, Pocketpair announced in September 2025 that Palworld would exit early access with a full 1.0 launch sometime in 2026, indicating a significant year ahead for the franchise.
