Animal Crossing: New Horizons Switch 2 Edition Offers Nintendo’s Most Affordable Paid Upgrade
While some first-party titles for the Nintendo Switch 2 have raised eyebrows with their pricing, Animal Crossing: New Horizons is set to be a budget-friendly option. The life simulation game will launch its Switch 2 edition on January 15, and current players can upgrade for just $5. The full digital and physical version will be available for $65, making it a more affordable choice compared to other Switch 2 titles. For instance, upgrades for The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and its sequel, Tears of the Kingdom, along with Kirby and the Forgotten Land and Super Mario Party Jamboree, are priced at $20. On the lower end, titles like Pokemon Legends: Z-A and Metroid Prime 4: Beyond require a $10 upgrade fee.
Nintendo is also rolling out several free updates for games like Super Mario Odyssey and Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, which don’t require the Switch 2 edition. The Switch 2 version of New Horizons will feature enhanced visuals that can reach 4K in TV mode, mouse controls, microphone and camera support, and the ability to host 12-player online sessions. Additionally, a free update will introduce exciting new features for both the original and Switch 2 versions. Players will be able to manage a resort hotel with Kapp’n’s family, decorate guest rooms, upgrade home storage, and design dream islands collaboratively online. These new features will be accessible to all players, regardless of whether they opt for the Switch 2 upgrade. However, even if you choose not to pay the $5 for the upgrade, you can still enjoy some visual enhancements when the update goes live. According to Nintendo, the game will receive visuals that are “optimized for the Nintendo Switch 2 display and improved image quality” through this free update. Just make sure to transfer your island from your original Switch to the Switch 2 to be fully prepared for the new content.
