After a long journey of development, setbacks, and a comeback, Hytale developers are thrilled to finally launch the sandbox RPG: “We’re ready to hit the button we’ve been waiting a decade to press.”
Hytale’s developers are reflecting on the journey of creating the game as it approaches its long-awaited release after a decade of hard work.
The road to Hytale has been anything but smooth. It all began in 2015 when the project gained momentum after being acquired by the developer behind League of Legends and Valorant. However, shortly after, the team at Hypixel announced a complete reboot of the game. Following years of development, the project faced an unexpected cancellation, leading to the closure of its studio in early 2025. Fortunately, before the year ended, Hypixel founder Simon Collins-Laflamme secured the rights to the game, with plans to launch it in early access as soon as possible.
Now, the release date for this Minecraft-inspired RPG is finally here, with expectations of attracting “over 1 million players” at launch. The developers are sharing their excitement about Hytale’s extensive development journey. A user on the game’s subreddit has gathered some of the developers’ thoughts leading up to the launch.
Sound designer Oscar Garvin expressed his enthusiasm, stating, “I can’t sleep; Hytale is releasing.” He continued, “On Feb 1st, I’ll have worked on Hytale for 10 years, alongside many talented colleagues. It’s hard to find the right words, but I’m thrilled. I know you are too. Enjoy our game!”
Carter “Ktar” Gale, a Creative Mode engineer, shared his feelings as well: “Hytale tomorrow. I’m at peace. The creative tools feel fantastic. There’s still work to do, of course, but I couldn’t be more excited to launch this game with such a talented and passionate team.”
Hypixel’s IT lead, DevSlashNull, added, “Going to bed knowing tomorrow we get to press the button we’ve waited 10 years to push. We can’t wait to see you all in-game tomorrow.” They humorously responded to artist Polina a few hours later, saying, “Who needs sleep anyway?” indicating that rest was not on their agenda.
In a previous interaction, the Hytale lead mentioned that a “dream” feature was just a dream, but a recent one-word follow-up hints that it might actually be a reality.
