Switch 2 Gets a New System Update—Here’s What You Need to Know
As you gear up to get back into your fitness routine post-holidays, your Switch 2 is getting a boost in stability with a fresh firmware update. The latest system update, now at version 21.2.0, has rolled out from Nintendo, and while it may not seem groundbreaking, it does promise “general system stability improvements to enhance the user’s experience.” Since its debut, the Switch 2 has primarily focused on these minor updates to ensure a smooth experience for players. However, there have been some noteworthy enhancements, like the November update that improved visual clarity on the home menu, making it easier to see whether games are owned physically or digitally. It also introduced GameChat improvements, further refining the console’s performance. The Switch 2 launched strong last year in June, breaking several sales records. However, sales in the US saw a decline of about 35% from November to December compared to the Switch 1 during its launch year in 2017, marking November 2025 as the worst month for hardware sales in the US since 1995. Despite this, Nintendo is optimistic, projecting to sell 19 million Switch 2 units by the end of March, with exciting early 2026 releases like a major upgrade for Animal Crossing: New Horizons and Mario Tennis Fever on the horizon.
