Forza Horizon 5 Emerges as Xbox’s Top Performer on PS5
In 2025, Microsoft opened the door for its top Xbox franchises to make their way to Sony’s PlayStation 5. A recent report highlights a standout among these ports: Forza Horizon 5, which launched on PS5 four years after its initial release. Despite the delay, it reportedly outperformed the combined sales of the next four Xbox titles on PS5. Alinea Analytics provided insights into the top five best-selling Xbox games on PS5 for 2025, with Forza Horizon 5 leading the pack at 5.1 million copies sold. Gears of War Reloaded followed far behind in second place with 572,000 copies, while Indiana Jones and the Great Circle secured third with 491,000 copies. Flight Simulator landed in fourth with 166,000 copies, and Senua’s Saga Hellblade 2 rounded out the top five with 50,000 sales. Alinea noted that only one PS5 exclusive outperformed Forza Horizon 5 in 2025: Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, which sold 5.2 million copies on the platform.
This aligns with Alinea’s previous report indicating that Forza Horizon 5 generated $300 million in sales on PS5 alone. After accounting for Sony’s typical 30% cut, Microsoft would net around $210 million, showcasing the strong demand from PlayStation 5 owners for the game. In September, Microsoft officially announced Forza Horizon 6, marking the series’ first venture into Japan. However, the game will initially launch exclusively on Xbox Series X|S and PC, with a PS5 release planned for a later date. Alinea’s report suggests that delaying the PS5 version might not be the best move, especially considering the success of its predecessor. Forza Horizon 6 is set to release later this year, though a specific date has yet to be revealed.
