New PS5 jailbreak that boosted Star Wars: Racer Revenge prices may not be effective after all.
At the end of 2025, a significant exploit emerged that appeared to pave the way for PS5 jailbreaks on the latest firmware. This vulnerability was linked to the PS4 version of Star Wars: Racer Revenge, causing its prices to soar in the secondhand market. However, just weeks later, it seems the jailbreak may not be as viable as initially thought.
The exploit operates in two stages. First, it leverages an in-game vulnerability in Racer Revenge to load a software tool called Luac0re, which is based on a previous exploit known as mast1c0re. This tool is designed to enable deeper kernel-level modifications on the console. The initial part of this process was demonstrated recently and is still functional.
The issue, as modder Gezine pointed out on Twitter, is that Sony blocked the next phase of the exploit around the 8.xx PS5 firmware versions, which began rolling out in 2023. Luac0re was intended to pull in a kernel-level exploit over the network to finalize the jailbreak, but that capability appears to be unavailable on any firmware released in the last few years.
A YouTube channel has provided a solid breakdown of the situation, but to summarize, if no alternative method to utilize Luac0re is found, the Racer Revenge exploit’s effectiveness will be quite limited. While Luac0re remains functional on older PS5 firmware, other jailbreak options are already accessible for those system versions.
Luac0re is still operational on current PS4 firmware, down to the necessary vulnerability for kernel-level modifications, which distinguishes it from other jailbreak exploits. However, if you were counting on this to be the ultimate solution for PS5 jailbreaking, that hope now seems unlikely to materialize. If you’re considering selling your recently acquired copy of Racer Revenge before prices drop, you might want to act quickly.
