A Guide to Finding Iron in Hytale

I don’t know about you, but I’m tired of getting taken out by bears, and those pesky grizzlies pushed me to hunt for iron in Hytale since my rock and stick weapons just weren’t cutting it. Early on, I stumbled upon a solid iron deposit and smelted it down into ingots to craft some serious weaponry and armor.

If you’re in the same situation, no worries—I’ve got you covered with a quick guide on how to find iron in Hytale, including what you’ll need to mine those deposits and process your ore.

You can discover iron by venturing into the underground caves found in the Emerald Grove biomes. I found a bunch of iron deposits near the entrances of a few deep tunnels close to my spawn point in the grassy meadows.

It seems that the deeper you delve into the caves, the more iron you’ll uncover, but be ready to face tougher cave-dwelling monsters and navigate through complete darkness. It’s easy to get lost, so be cautious if you’re still in the early game. I’ve met my end at the hands of spiders just as often as bears, all because of that “just one more node” temptation.

I managed to mine iron with a Crude Pickaxe, but I highly recommend spending a few copper ingots to upgrade to a Copper Pickaxe. It gets pretty dark down there, so make sure to craft several torches to light your path. I like to carry a good number of them to breadcrumb my way back to the entrance and illuminate areas for potential enemy encounters.

Once you’ve gathered your iron, head to the workbench and craft a Tier 1 Furnace. Load it up with fuel (about 4 sticks will process a single ore). Drop the raw ore into the input slot, hit ‘Turn On,’ and then wait for it to smelt. If you’ve got a stack of 99 ore, consider exploring another dark cave or taking on some local ghouls while you wait—this process can take a bit.

As for what to craft with your first few iron ingots, I recommend making the Iron Pickaxe as soon as possible. While it might be tempting to jump straight into crafting weapons, prioritizing your mining tools will speed up the whole process.
