The Battle Royale Manga Makes a Comeback in a Deluxe Edition

Battle Royale has stirred up quite a bit of debate since its debut, originally starting as a novel before evolving into a beloved cult classic film. The franchise’s popularity in both literature and cinema paved the way for a manga adaptation, which is making a comeback this month in a stylish Deluxe Edition. The first volume of the Battle Royale: Deluxe Edition hits shelves on January 27, and you can already preorder it on Amazon, currently priced at $44—20% off its regular $55 MSRP.

Over the years, Battle Royale has spawned several sequel manga series, though many are hard to track down due to limited print runs. The latest installment, Battle Royale: Enforcers, began serialization in 2022 and is set decades after the original story, taking place in the same universe. When a government AI reactivates the notorious Program 68, the rebellious students of Daitoa Academy’s Class F are split into squads, armed, and unleashed to battle each other to the death. So far, four paperback volumes have been released and translated into English:

– Battle Royale: Enforcers Manga
– Vol. 1 — $12 ($15)
– Vol. 2 — $11.24 ($15)
– Vol. 3 — $10.60 ($15)
– Vol. 4 — $12 ($15)

If you’re interested in the film that inspired the book, it’s available on Blu-ray. The standard Blu-ray of the intense Director’s Cut is priced at $25, while a premium 4K version was released last year, featuring a blend of special features from the Director’s Cut and the theatrical cut, all wrapped in a striking steelbook cover.

– Battle Royale Blu-rays
– Battle Royale: Director’s Cut — $25
– Battle Royale: 25th Anniversary (4K) — $84

For those on the hunt for more special edition manga, there are plenty of deluxe editions worth checking out. Iconic series like Berserk and Vagabond have received similar upgrades, with upcoming releases including deluxe editions of Ghost in the Shell, Appleseed, and Oldboy.
