Hytale Launches Strong, Garnering Impressive Twitch Viewership
The early access launch of Hytale yesterday attracted over 400,000 viewers on Twitch, showcasing its immediate popularity. Speculation suggests that the Minecraft-inspired sandbox title may have nearly reached 3 million sales, although this figure is currently under debate. Reports indicate that Hytale had around 420,000 viewers on January 13, and as of now, it boasts approximately 112,000 viewers, ranking just behind heavyweights like League of Legends and Grand Theft Auto V.
There are also rumors swirling about a staggering 2.8 million concurrent players, a number that seems almost too impressive to be true. This speculation originated from a stream shared by Hytale News on YouTube. The developer, Hypixel Studios, has been contacted for clarification on this statistic. For context, PUBG holds the record for the most concurrent players on Steam, with over 3.2 million in January 2018, making it hard to believe that Hytale could approach that milestone just 24 hours post-launch, especially since players must download the game from the Hytale website.
A blog post from Hytale confirmed that “demand has exceeded our expectations,” suggesting that sales have likely surpassed 1 million copies, aligning with Hypixel founder Simon Collins-Laflamme’s earlier statement that they anticipated over 1 million players on the early-access release day. It’s worth noting that Hytale was initially canceled by Riot Games in June 2025 but was revived in November by Hypixel Studios, with development having begun over a decade ago.
