Battlefront 3 Gets a Stunning Fan-Made Revival from Star Wars Modders

After four years in the making, the open beta for KYBER, a community-driven multiplayer game launcher for Star Wars Battlefront II, is making waves among fans who rallied for EA to develop Star Wars Battlefront III last year. In June 2025, Star Wars Battlefront II saw an incredible surge in players on Steam, jumping from a previous peak of 10,489 in January 2021 to an astonishing 35,892, largely due to a limited-time sale price of $5. This spike was fueled by a fan campaign on Reddit from the r/StarWarsBattlefront community, inspired by the success of Andor’s second season, aiming to show EA and Disney that a new Battlefront sequel would be a hit.

At KYBER, we’re all about pineapple on our pizza! ????????

In other news, Star Wars Battlefront II just received its first content update of 2026 on PC, and it’s available to play right now!

The community’s call for a new game seemed to fall on deaf ears, as neither EA nor Disney has indicated plans for a new multiplayer shooter. However, the buzz did seem to motivate Armchair Developers, the team behind KYBER, to step up their efforts.

Although KYBER had been in development for years prior, community manager Ethan Clark shared that the team “worked nonstop all week, doing our best to help the content and mod creation communities fire on all cylinders” after the success of the May 24th “Resurgence Day” campaign for Star Wars Battlefront II.

KYBER serves as an “all-in-one launcher” for Star Wars Battlefront II, introducing a host of player-requested features like proximity voice chat, a spectator mode, and full Discord integration. The real highlight, however, is the addition of new characters and expanded mod support, featuring characters like Cal Kestis from Star Wars Jedi: Survivor and Asajj Ventress from Star Wars: The Clone Wars. The open beta launched on December 20, and according to the official KyberServers team, it attracted “61,169 unique players” and “1,339,489 sessions” within the first 48 hours. The r/StarWarsBattlefield community is buzzing with excitement, with one user noting it’s like Battlefront II but with more classes, guns, and some balance tweaks.

The open beta currently has no set end date, and Armchair Developers have teased significant plans for the future. They’ve committed to making the source code for KYBER “available to the public” later this month, with additional balance patches already in the pipeline. While it may not be Star Wars Battlefront III just yet, with a few extra characters and new maps, it’s certainly on the right track. Here’s hoping someone at EA or Disney is taking notice.
