Ryan Hurst’s portrayal of Kratos earns the “BOI” seal of approval from Christopher Judge.
Ryan Hurst, known for his roles in The Walking Dead and Sons of Anarchy, is set to take on the role of Kratos in the upcoming God of War adaptation on Prime Video, and his gaming counterpart has given him a thumbs up.
Christopher Judge, who voiced Kratos in the 2018 God of War and its 2022 sequel, God of War Ragnarok, took to Twitter to congratulate Hurst, saying, “Congrats Ryan!!!! You’re gonna be great… BOI !!!”
Interestingly, both Judge and Hurst have previously clashed in the Norse realm, with Judge’s Kratos facing off against Hurst’s Thor in God of War Ragnarok.
The future looks promising for Amazon’s interpretation of Santa Monica Studio’s epic saga. The streaming service has already greenlit two seasons, focusing on Kratos’ Norse adventures rather than his Greek origins, with Ronald D. Moore, the mind behind Outlander and Battlestar Galactica, at the helm.
Moore’s knack for crafting compelling television seems to outweigh his gaming experience. During an appearance on The Sackhoff Show with Katee Sackhoff, he humorously remarked about his gaming skills, saying, “The controllers now… Press R1, which one’s R1? Oh, I’m dead! I can’t quite get a hold of that.”
In a later conversation with IGN, Moore emphasized that the core of the series will center on the initially strained relationship between Kratos and his son, Atreus.
“I responded to the story of Kratos and his son. Then they set out on this epic journey in this world that was finely detailed and really interesting, and there’s a lot of combat and interesting monsters along the way. But I kept coming back to this story of father and son, and it was just emotional, and it was different, and I hadn’t seen anything like that before.”
The release date for Amazon’s God of War TV show has yet to be announced.
