Mister Miracle Series Confirms Darkseid’s Arrival in the DC Universe

James Gunn has confirmed that the upcoming animated Mister Miracle series will be part of the DC Universe canon, which hints at the potential arrival of the supervillain Darkseid.

In response to a now-deleted post about Mister Miracle on Threads, a fan asked, “This is DCU canon?” to which Gunn replied, “Indeed.”

The show will center on Scott Free, also known as Mister Miracle. In the comics, he is the son of Highfather, the leader of New Genesis, but was adopted by Darkseid and raised on Apokolips. Eventually, he escapes and makes his way to Earth, where he takes on the mantle of Mister Miracle.

Comic book writer Tom King is set to serve as showrunner, but casting for the roles of Scott and his love interest, Big Barda, has yet to be announced.

Regarding Darkseid, a live-action version of the character was featured in Zack Snyder’s Justice League, portrayed by Ray Porter. Darkseid’s goal is to seize the Anti-Life Equation, which would eradicate hope and free will across the multiverse.

For now, an animated version of Darkseid may be the only one we see in the DCU, and if he does appear in live-action, it seems he won’t play a significant role. Gunn mentioned last year, “Aspects of Darkseid and Thanos are obviously very similar. They look very similar, and because of that, I think that to give you probably more of an answer than you expected, using Darkseid as the big bad right now is not necessarily the thing, for a lot of reasons.”

There’s no release date for Mister Miracle yet. While we await further updates, you can catch up on the rest of the DCU Chapter One with our guide to all the upcoming DC movies and shows.
