Rockstar Gives Terminally Ill Fan a Chance to Play GTA 6 Early
Rockstar Games has reportedly made a touching gesture by allowing a terminally ill fan to experience Grand Theft Auto 6 ahead of its much-anticipated release in November. The story has resonated across the gaming community, highlighting a rare and human moment behind one of the industry’s biggest franchises.
A Final Wish Fulfilled Through the Gaming Community
The situation first became public through a LinkedIn post by Anthony Armstrong, a developer at Ubisoft Toronto, who reached out to contacts at Rockstar Games on behalf of a close family member. According to Armstrong, the fan had been battling cancer for years and was recently given an estimated six to twelve months to live, raising the possibility that he might not survive long enough to see GTA 6 launch.
Armstrong explained that his family member was a lifelong Grand Theft Auto fan and lived near Rockstar’s Oakville studio. Hoping to create a meaningful final memory, he asked whether Rockstar could arrange a private early play session of GTA 6. Aware of the studio’s strict confidentiality policies, Armstrong made it clear that NDAs or other security measures would be completely acceptable.
The post quickly gained traction online, with developers and fans amplifying the message. Weeks later, Armstrong shared an encouraging update, revealing that Take-Two Interactive’s CEO had personally reached out, and discussions with Rockstar were in progress. Shortly after, he confirmed that the request had been successful, describing the outcome as “great news,” though he avoided sharing specific details.
While Rockstar has not publicly commented on the situation, the gesture has been widely praised. In an industry defined by secrecy and blockbuster launches, the moment stands out as a powerful reminder that gaming can also be about compassion, connection, and making someone’s final wish come true.
